Rays Make History With 10–0 Start to 2023 Season
For most of the afternoon, the Rays had no answer for Red Sox pitching on Monday. Then, with one swing of the bat, their dream start to the season was once again alive and well.
Tampa Bay beat Boston, 1–0, thanks to a solo home run from Brandon Lowe in the eighth inning to improve to 10–0 on the young season. With the win, the Rays became the first team since the 1987 Brewers to start a year with 10 consecutive victories.
The win was Tampa Bay’s third straight shutout and fourth of the season. The team’s run differential (plus-58) is the highest through a team’s first 10 games since the start of the 20th century, per MLB’s Sarah Langs, and the fifth-largest of all time.
The Rays have dominated from start to finish in nearly every game so far: in eight of their 10 contests, they never trailed. The team leads the majors in runs scored (76) and runs allowed (16). The record for most wins to begin a season is 13, held by the 1987 Brewers and ’82 Braves.
