Pete Alonso Makes Mets History With Mammoth Walk-Off Home Run vs. Rays

The Mets walked off with a win on Wednesday, courtesy of a 10th-inning moonshot home run from star slugger Pete Alonso.

After a back and forth battle with the Rays, Alonso ended things with one swing of his bat, launching a three-run shot off Pete Fairbanks to lift New York over Tampa.

In doing so, Alonso joined some elite company in Mets history. According to NYM Stats on Twitter, the slugger is now tied for the most walk-off home runs in franchise history, joining the likes of Chris Jones, Kevin McReynolds, Cleon Jones, Mike Piazza, and Wilmer Flores with four such hits.

Oh, and Alonso didn’t hold back with his celebration, either. He watched the ball all the way out of the park before flexing his arm while rounding the bases.

There was absolutely no doubt about that home run from Alonso, who knew it was gone the instant he made contact with the ball, if not earlier.

The home run traveled 416 feet and was Alonso’s 15th of the season, which slots him ahead of Dodgers’ Max Muncy for the league lead.

Additionally, the 10th-inning heroics from Alonso marked the first walk-off hit for the Mets this season. It couldn’t have come at a better time, as the 28-year-old helped steal a win at home against baseball’s best team.
