ESPN’s Passan Jokingly Calls ‘Pat McAfee Show’ Producer ‘Scumbag’ for Yankees-Yamamoto Tweet

Ty Schmit, a producer for The Pat McAfee Show, went viral on Thursday when he posted breaking news pertaining to pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s free agency destination.

The only problem was that Schmit said that Yamamoto was heading to the New York Yankees.

“Hearing from very reliable sources that Yamamoto to the Yankees is done,” Schmit posted on X (formerly Twitter). “9 years, $326 million. Being told Godzilla Matsui helped push it over the goal line. Yoshi keeps the No. 18 jersey.”

Obviously, that post was incorrect, as Yamamoto signed a 12-year contract worth $325 million with the Dodgers on Thursday night. ESPN baseball insider Jeff Passan couldn’t help but jokingly put Schmit on blast when he appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday.

“Ty ... I’m going to speak in a language that will be maybe be familiar to Ty,” Passan said, before whipping out his best Lou Holtz impression that Schmit performs so well on the show.

“Ty Schmit, you are a spectacular scumbag,” he joked. The ESPN insider also said that what Ty did was “about as bad as a thing that you can do to an entire fan base.”
