Juan Soto Had Such a Cool Moment With Yankees Fan During a Marlins Player's At-Bat
Juan Soto continued his torrid start to his New York Yankees career during Monday's 7-0 win over the Miami Marlins, as he belted his first Yankee Stadium home run, helping New York improve to 9-2, tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the majors' best record.
But it was something Soto did right before the game started that may have caught the attention of Yankees fans even more than his towering, three-run home run to right field in the fourth inning.
Moments before Yankees starter Nestor Cortes prepared to hurl the game's first pitch, Soto signed a baseball for a New York fan, then quickly jumped back into a defensive stance just as Cortes started into his windup. Soto had just enough time to put pen to ball before the start of the game, something he acknowledged after the contest, per The New York Post.
"I saw the clock, so I was hesitating because the game was supposed to start at 6:08. So I had two minutes and I turned around and Nestor was almost moving. I was like, ‘Oh my God," Soto said.
Soto has wasted no time endearing himself to Yankees fans, whom he delivered a full bow to after his first roll call at Yankee Stadium during this past Friday's home opener.
In 11 games this season, Soto has slashed .357/.462/.548 with two home runs, 10 RBI and six runs scored.
