Cubs' Cody Bellinger Heading to Injured List With Fractured Rib

There is no timetable for a return for Bellinger, who was starting to heat up at the plate.

Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger is heading to the injured list with a fractured rib, manager Craig Counsell told 670 The Score in Chicago on Wednesday.

Bellinger suffered the injury chasing down a fly ball and slamming into the wall in the top of the fourth inning in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Houston Astros. He was removed from the game following the play.

There is no timetable for Bellinger's return to the lineup, per Counsell.

Bellinger got off to a slow start to the season for the 14-9 Cubs, but was beginning to heat up at the plate. Despite slashing just .226/.320/.440 for the season, he was seven for his last 18 over the past five games, good for a .389 average, with three home runs and six RBI.

Bellinger's absence will leave a hole in the middle of the order for the Cubs, who continue to impress throughout the month of April under the franchise's new manager in Counsell.
