The Houston Astros made a roster move on Monday but it didn't come in the form of a trade.

The Astros added right-handed reliever Jake Cousins to the roster after claiming him off of waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers

Cousins has pitched 52.2 innings over the course of the last three seasons at the Major League level. He has been relatively effective posting a career 3.08 ERA but has accumulated a slightly less impressive 1.386 WHIP.

The 2023 MLB season hasn't treated Cousins well. The righty has thrown just 9.1 innings, walked 10 and allowed five earned runs. Cousins has also been dealing with a shoulder injury and has been rehabbing it.

He spent the entire All-Star break at the Brewer's spring training complex in hopes of working up to higher level pitching.

To make room for Cousins, Houston designated Blake Taylor for assignment. The Astros also called up Matt Gage. Cousins was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land upon acquisition according to MLB's transaction wire.

He will try and work his way back to the MLB level and provide invaluable depth for a bullpen that is already incredibly taxed this season.
