The Houston Astros announced on Saturday that outfielder Yordan Alvarez worked out in Houston as he recovers from an illness that set back his injury rehab assignment.

Astros manager Dusty Baker made the announcement in advance of the Astros’ game with the Los Angeles Angels.

Alvarez was supposed to start his injury rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, but the illness delayed it. The Astros were not specific about the illness and Baker said there was no timetable for Alvarez to start his rehab.

When he does play, it will be his first game action in more than a month. He went on the injured list in early June with a right oblique strain and the Astros have been targeting a return after the All-Star Break.

He’s been hitting balls off tees, taking batting practice and doing other baseball-related activities for the past two weeks, dating back to the Astros’ road trip to Los Angeles, St. Louis and Texas to end the month of June.

Meanwhile, his teammate, pitcher José Urquidy, threw his first rehab assignment with the Space Cowboys on Friday night.

Urquidy made his first appearance in a game of any kind since April 30, when he left a game against Philadelphia with what turned out to be right shoulder inflammation. He’s been on the 15-day injured list since May 1.

Against El Paso, Urquidy pitched just two innings. He only gave up a hit but allowed two unearned runs.

It’s not clear when Urquidy will pitch again. When he left the Astros he was 2-2 with a 5.20 ERA in six starts.
