Reflecting on Blue Jays Shortstop Bo Bichette's Brilliant Season

In this story:
The Toronto Blue Jays have plenty to be proud of from their 2025 season especially as they look to repeat their success with (hopefully) the same core in 2026. The Jays will look to repeat as American League champions and get back to the World Series, but they need to lock down their best all-around offensive weapon shortstop Bo Bichette.
Bichette hit free agency as soon as the World Series wrapped up, but he has been extremely vocal about his wishes to return for next season which is exactly what they need especially after how he played this season.
Yes, the Blue Jays are full of hitters which was on full display during their playoff run where Bichette was not available until the World Series. However, without their shortstop it is highly unlikely that the team wins the AL East with the best record in the AL.
Bichette's All-MLB Second Team Season
It is hard to imagine that Bichette would not have been selected to the All-MLB First Team had he not missed the last month of the season with a knee sprain after colliding with another player at home plate in early September. Bichette as he was on track to 20+ home runs, 100+ RBI, 200 hits paired with the best batting average of his career.
- .311 Batting Average
- .357 On-Base Percentage
- .483 Slugging Percentage
- .840 OPS
- 181 Hits
- 281 Total Bases
- 44 Doubles
- 18 Home Runs
- 94 RBI
- 40 Drawn Walks
Then he stepped into the highest stakes of the season against the reigning World Champions and was as about as solid as one could ask for, especially since he hadn't played in six weeks. His three run homer in Game 7 of the World Series went viral as he finished the series with a .348 batting average and an OPS of .922.
Defensively Bichette is solid which was demonstrated during the Fall Classic. Despite never suiting up at second base in his major league career, Bichette stepped up. The 27-year-old was activated for the World Series where he showed off his range in the infield as he played it flawlessly showing off both his athleticism, adaptability and knowledge of the game.
This was arguably one of Bichette's best seasons and he has truly emerged as the heart and soul of this batting order for so many reasons. It will truly be a shame if management can not lock him down for the 2026 season and beyond.
