Brewers Get Best-Case News on Garrett Mitchell After X-Ray

The Milwaukee Brewers had a bit of a scare on Sunday when it came to outfielder Garrett Mitchell, but it sounds like everything is going to be alright.

Milwaukee wrapped up its three-game series against the Atlanta Braves in the Little League Classic on Sunday and Mitchell unfortunately was forced to leave early in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch on a bunt attempt. The injury was called a right forearm contusion afterward.

After the game, Mitchell spoke to the media and shared that he underwent X-rays and that they came back negative, as seen in a clip shared to X by MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

"It's fine," Mitchell said after the game. "It hurt. It didn't feel good, but it's fine. ... I went back in and did a quick X-ray. X-ray was negative."

After leaving early, this is the exact type of update Milwaukee fans needed. Mitchell has been able to stay healthy, for the most part, this season and as a result, he has had the best season of his career so far. The 27-year-old has played in 118 games so far this season and is slashing .262/.360/.422 with a .781 OPS, nine home runs, 54 RBIs, 12 stolen bases, 26 doubles, three triples and 54 runs scored. Plus, he has been excellent defensively. Mitchell is in the 91st percentile in outs above average with six.

Another positive for the Brewers is the fact that the club has a day off on Monday. Milwaukee has a day to reset before kicking off a three-game series against the New York Mets on the road on Tuesday at Citi Field. Hopefully, Mitchell is right back in the lineup when the series kicks off.

Soon enough, there will be some decisions coming in the outfield, anyway. The current expectation is that Sal Frelick will be activated off the Injured List during the Mets series. Right now, he's on a minor league rehab assignment down with Triple-A Nashville. Frelick has played in 10 games in Triple-A and is slashing .278/.395/.556. When he's activated, the Brewers will have to figure out how to spread out the at-bats with him, Mitchell, Jackson Chourio and Luis Lara. Plus, Jake Bauers has gotten time in the outfield this season as well.

The outfield is a major strength for Milwaukee, even though tough decisions are coming. Fortunately, it sounds like Mitchell is going to be alright.
