The Arizona Diamondbacks are gradually moving toward a return to full health. In their most recent series, they saw the returns of righty flamethrower Justin Martinez and outfielder Jordan Lawlar.

As is customary, manager Torey Lovullo met with the Phoenix media on Friday night, with a long list of injury updates ahead of their homestand-opening contest with the Cincinnati Reds.

Here's what Lovullo was able to provide:

Corbin Burnes

Corbin Burnes threw 20 pitches to live hitters on Friday. This is a significant step forward in his recovery, though he is still not quite nearing a return to MLB action, yet.

Lovullo said Burnes is expected to throw in a bridge camp game on Tuesday, with a target of two innings and 35 pitches. He may require multiple such appearances before beginning a true rehab assignment.

Burnes had been on a rapid return process from Tommy John surgery, but suffered a setback by way of a teres major (shoulder) injury that pushed that timeline back. He is hopeful to pitch again this year, but may not be able to ramp back up to full starting length.

Zac Gallen

Zac Gallen (right elbow inflammation) threw a live BP Wednesday — two and 35, as well. He's expected to throw a bullpen session on Saturday and determine the path forward from there.

Gallen has been on the 60-day IL. He is eligible to return on September 9 and could pitch again, though it's unclear if that will be the day he is activated.

The former ace was in the midst of an even tougher season than 2025. He held a 6.34 ERA — which was the worst qualified figure in baseball — at the time of his IL placement. He, too, may not be able to ramp back up to full starter's length.

OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (adductor strain) has played in two Triple-A rehab games. He is 1-for-7 with a walk and six strikeouts. Lovullo said Gurriel will play again Friday.

OF Tommy Troy (AC joint sprain) took live at-bats off Burnes Wednesday. He will play in a bridge camp game on Saturday.

RHP Drey Jameson (hip inflammation) threw 1.2 innings for Triple-A Reno and gave up two runs. He will throw again for Reno on Sunday.

LHP Blake Walston (Tommy John surgery) threw 39 pitches in one-plus innings on August 19 for the Reno Aces. He will appear on Sunday, as well; that will be his sixth rehab game.

RHP Ryne Nelson (elbow sprain) threw a 25-pitch bullpen on Friday. He will throw another bullpen on August 25.

RHP Ryan Thompson (lower back/hip) has made "limited progress," Lovullo said. Thompson is expected to see a hip specialist.
