Dodgers Rumors: LA 'Expected to Pursue' Corbin Burnes Trade

The trade market could be hot this offseason.

This offseason, the Dodgers and the front office have something to prove on the hot stove. A winter ago the club was shut out in free agency. At the same time, several top contributors left for other organizations.

Despite the perceived "L" of an offseason, the team surprisingly put together another 100 win season in 2023. But the cracks that would undo the Dodgers in the postseason were forming all season long.

Pitching was an issue. And it became a glaring one in the National League Division Series. Without guys like Walker Buehler or Julio Urias, or a healthy Clayton Kershaw, the Arizona Diamondbacks teed off on LA. The club was without an ace in the rotation. And, the expectation is that's something they plan on addressing this offseason.

While it's easy to point to some of the big names on the free agent market, where these Dodgers love working is on the trade market. And one name who has been linked to LA for the better part of a year and a half might finally be available.

Milwaukee ace Corbin Burnes.

In a recent column, LA Times beat writer Jack Harris reported on the club's rumored interest in acquiring the three time All-Star.

The Dodgers are expected to pursue former Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes, if the Milwaukee Brewers consider trading their ace right-hander ahead of his final year of team control.

The Brewers window in the NL Central seems to be just about closed. Their manager Craig Counsell is reportedly likely to leave for a new job this winter. Staff co-ace Brandon Woodruff may miss the entire 2024 season as he recovers from surgery. Now is as good a time as any to look to the future and restock the farm system with talent from LA.

The Dodgers have the prospect capitol to get a deal done. But, Andrew Friedman's front office won't make a move unless they feel "there's a bargain involved," as it was termed by columnist Dylan Hernandez recently.

The trade market for Burnes will certainly be something to keep an eye on this offseason.
