Right now, catcher Will Smith, first baseman Freddie Freeman, outfielder Mookie Betts and designated hitter J.D. Martinez are atop in their respective categories. Smith is in the midst of a great season for LA, hitting .293 with 10 home runs and 37 runs batted in. He is arguably the best catcher in the game and rightfully deserves to be named to the All-Star game. Smith is one of the more consistent players in the Dodgers lineup and he is someone that the team counts on day after day.
Freeman is on pace for a potential MVP run. He is currently hitting .324 with 13 home runs and 46 runs batted in. Freeman is one of the frontrunners for the MVP award at this point and is having an incredible season for the Dodgers.
As for Betts, he is the ultimate versatile superstar. Playing in both the outfield and infield, Betts can do it all. He is currently hitting .264 with 17 home runs and 43 runs batted in. Betts is one of the leaders for this Dodgers team and is a top player in the sport so he will likely stay where he is in the voting.
Martinez has had a great start to his career in Dodger blue. Signing for only $10 million in the offseason, he could end up becoming the steal of the winter. He is currently hitting .257 with 16 home runs and 48 runs batted in. Martinez holds a nice lead over the next player in line so if he continues to produce, he could be header to the Pacific Northwest.
Some names in contention are Max Muncy, Chris Taylor, Miguel Vargas, James Outman and Jason Heyward. There is still time for any of these players to make the team and they could help themselves with some strong next few weeks on the field.
