Dodgers Notes: Good Mookie Update, Joe Kelly's Son Gets His Moment, Buehler's Year Off

In this story:
The Dodgers took game one of the three game series against the Nationals by outslugging and out finessing the Washington club 8-5 through a weather delay. The victory came without Mookie Betts in the lineup, who is expected to miss the weekend series after fouling a ball off his foot on Thursday night.
Thankfully, after Friday night's win, manager Dave Roberts shared a positive update on Betts who looks to have avoided the worst.
Dave Roberts said testing on Mookie Betts' left foot all came back negative and that the MVP candidate has a bone bruise. The expectation is Betts will not play this weekend.

In other mixed news, there was a good update on Joe Kelly and a less good update on Walker Buehler. First, the good saw Kelly make his first rehab appearance right in his backyard with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He tossed a scoreless inning, allowing just one hit in a Rancho come from behind win. Joe was also greeted by honorary bat boy Knox after his outing. Knox is, of course, his oldest son.

As for Buehler, the pitcher and the organization decided to shut down his 2023 comeback attempt after a slower recovery bounce back from his first minor league rehab outing last weekend.

Freddie Freeman has been PERFECT for the Dodgers.
— Doug McKain (@DMAC_LA) September 9, 2023
He had a career-high with 47 doubles last year and he set the all-time franchise record this year with 53.
The most doubles he hit in a single season with the Braves was 44 (2018).
Peak Freddie.
