Dodgers Shockingly Cut Reliever, Recall Edgardo Henriquez

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Edgardo Henriquez, and in a corresponding move, designated right-hander Lou Trivino for assignment.

Henriquez has yet to debut this season as he has been nursing a left foot fracture sustained during spring training and Trivino is sporting a 3.76 ERA in 26 appearances with the Dodgers.

The Dodgers recalled RHP Edgardo Henriquez and designated RHP Lou Trivino for assignment.

In Trivino's past five appearances, he gave up seven hits, three earned runs, and most recently, was charged with a blown save and a loss on Sunday afternoon against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Henriquez, the No. 15 overall prospect in the Dodgers' system, has appeared in as many regular season games as he has postseason outings with three of each occurring last season. The flame-thrower came to the team towards the end of September of last season and immediately showed off his powerful fastball.

The fastball in question reached an average velocity of 98.7 mph during the regular season and was used 64.4 percent of the time. Batters had a .250 average against that offering, and a swing-and-miss rate of 25 percent.

The other pitch in his arsenal, his cutter, was used the other 35.6 percent of the time and had yet to be hit against opposing batters in the regular season. The swing-and-miss rate of that offering was 27.3 percent.

Trivino had an up and down season, but still displayed a lot of positives in his game.

In terms of average exit velocity and hard-hit percentage, Trivino was one of the best in baseball. Batters only hit his offerings of 95 mph and over 32 percent of the time, good for the 94th percentile among active pitchers, and his average exit velocity is at just 86.8 percent, good for the 92nd percentile across the majors.

Trivino's sweeper was also his most effective pitch in the arsenal as batters could only hit it at a .167 average. Hitters would also swing and miss at this offering 32.1 percent of the time, the second-highest margin in his pitch mix.
