The Dodgers received good news regarding the status of a key relief pitcher as they prepare to take on the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series.

Former closer Tanner Scott made his last appearance nearly a month ago, and has been held out of the entire postseason so far after an abscess on his backside became infected.

“It popped up probably, Game 1 [of the NLDS], I started feeling something,” Scott told reporters. “And then the off-day [between Games 2 and 3 of that series], I noticed something was really off. By the time we got back from Philly, it was just like, ‘Hey, we need to get this taken care of.’”

Now that he's had time to recover, Scott told reporters that he feels healthy enough to play in the World Series if called upon.

"I feel a lot better now," Scott said. "I'm throwing, threw a couple bullpens, see where it takes me.

"[The abscess was] bad timing, but healthy now, so just keep going. That's about it."

The question, however, becomes will the Dodgers want to trust Scott in the World Series?

Scott has disappointed in his first season in Los Angeles after signing a four-year, $72 million contract over the offseason. With a 4.74 ERA and the most blown saves in baseball this year, the Dodgers might not have confidence in the player they brought in to be their closer.

In 11 appearances in September, Scott had two blown saves, three saves and a 6.48 ERA. In his place, the Dodgers have found a reliable closer in Roki Sasaki, who holds a 1.13 ERA, three saves and one hold throughout seven appearances in the postseason so far.

The Dodgers will likely keep a close eye on Scott's bullpen and live sessions over the next few days before they make a decision whether to add him back to the World Series roster. Scott said he has the benefit of facing some of the best hitters in baseball during practice, such as Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman.

"“He’s so good and it’s so hard to get him out,” Scott said. “He lets me know the last time he faced me, he got a hit off me. But the time before, I struck him out. So I always bring up that one.”
