Former SF Giants minor-league infielder Rich Aldrete, the brother of former Giants infielder and current A's first base coach Mike Aldrete and father of Giants prospect Carter Aldrete, was arrested earlier this month on charges of sexually assaulting a girl he was coaching in 2018 and 2019. He was arraigned on Tuesday and pled not guilty to two charges of felony sexual penetration of a minor with a foreign object, per the Monterrey Herald.
KSBW reported that the investigation was sparked following a 21-year-old woman reaching out to police in October of 2022. She said that Rich Aldrete had sexually assaulted her multiple times between 2018 and 2019 when she was a minor while driving her home from practice. Following an investigation, an arrest warrant for Rich Aldrete was issued on March 10th.
Rich Aldrete has run the Aldrete Baseball Academy, based in Monterrey, California, for several years and his daughter (Annie) has run the Aldrete Softball Academy. This is not the first time an Aldrete Academy has been tied to the sexual assault of a minor. In 2018, Madison Nott-Perez, a 20-year-old coach for the Aldrete Softball Academy, was sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
The Aldrete family has several ties to the Giants organization and throughout the Bay Area. Rich was drafted by the Giants in 1987 and spent four years playing in the organization's minor leagues, reaching Triple-A. His brother, Mike Aldrete, was drafted by the Giants in 1983 and made his big-league debut with the organization in 1986. Mike appeared in parts of 10 big-league seasons, primarily with the Giants and Oakland Athletics.
Rich's son Carter Aldrete is currently a prospect in the Giants organization. He was ranked the 36th-best prospect in the farm system entering the year. Carter was drafted out of Arizona State by the Giants in the 15th round of the 2019 draft. He is currently playing for the team's Double-A affiliate, the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Rich's daughter Annie Aldrete was a softball star at Tennessee and Cal from 2013-2017, playing with the U.S. Women's National Team in 2015.
The next hearing surrounding Rich Aldrete's charges is scheduled for April 19th. Per court records, he is currently represented by Xavier George Nady, the father of former Mets, Pirates, Yankees, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Nationals, SF Giants, and Padres outfielder Xavier Nady.
