Adell Blasts Off As Guardians Roll Past Rockies, Win Second Straight Series

In this story:
Jo Adell gave the Cleveland Guardians a +20.9% increase in win probability all within one swing in the fourth inning.
On Sunday, August 23, the Guardians rolled past the Colorado Rockies in the second outing of a three-game set, securing a series victory. Adell, who has only been with the team a few weeks, played hero for the team. He smashed a three-run home run in the fourth inning of the outing, bringing Jose Ramirez and Chase DeLauter home, as the Guardians snagged a lead they never gave up.
They would go on to win 4-3, securing their second-straight series win.
“I give a lot of credit to the clubhouse and Jo," manager Stephen Vogt said postgame when reflecting on Adell joining the team at the trade deadline. "And you know, Jo came excited from day 1, excited to join us, excited to be here, and the guys welcomed him from day 1. I mean, we talked about it at the time; we had to make some very difficult decisions when we acquired him, and he's fit right in.
"And obviously, just haven't had anybody who can hit the ball like that here in a while.”

Since joining the Guardians, Adell has slowly but surely found his groove at the plate. Across the last 16 games, in which the team has gone just 7-9, the 27-year-old has slashed .246/.323/.526 for an OPS of .849.
He has punched four doubles, four home runs and 14 total hits, contributing 15 RBI for a squad that had been lacking such an effort at the plate.
While there is still a bit more consistency needed, especially considering he has posted eight hitless outings, he has made up for that with his power.

Like Vogt mentioned, a player like Adell, who was traded for the first time in his career, can not come to a new club and get acclimated as quickly as he has without a good clubhouse. Cleveland, with a mix of youngsters and veterans, has done a great job at welcoming newcomers all year long.
Postgame, Adell shared that sentiment with the media in Denver.
“Yeah, the best part of the first day I showed up, it was very evident that, you know, everybody's here to do their job," he said. "And to be who they are, nothing more, and so to come in with just the focus on winning a ball game and really nothing else other than that, just being yourself and going and doing what you can. That's what we do here.
"Everyone's welcoming with open arms, and it's been pretty awesome to just focus on being who I am and winning a game.”

The Guardians are now riding a three-game winning streak heading into the series finale against the Rockies on Sunday afternoon.
The finale is set for 3:10 p.m. EST, before the Guardians travel to Los Angeles to take on Adell's former squad on Monday.
