DeLauter Has Career Night As Guardians Extend Winning Streak To Four

The Cleveland Guardians are now just a game below .500 and are still in the race for the No. 1 spot in the American League Central with a series win over the Colorado Rockies.

For just the fourth time in franchise history, a Cleveland Guardians rookie has smacked two triples in a single game.

And his name is Chase DeLauter.

On Sunday, August 23, the Guardians extended their winning streak to four straight with a road victory over the Colorado Rockies. Helping guide them to a 7-2 win was DeLauter, who finished with a 3-for-4 performance from the plate. He hit two triples and a single, pushing two runs across the plate in the process. He also scored twice himself.

The 24-year-old became the first rookie to produce such a performance since Alex Cole did so back on Sept. 12, 1990.

On the campaign, DeLauter's numbers have grown to an impressive slashing line of .284/.358/.438 for an OPS of .796. He has totalled 116 hits, 22 doubles, three triples and 13 home runs, all while tacking on 57 RBI.

Since returning from injury at the end of June, he has been playing at another level.

He is batting over .300 with 16 extra-base hits, helping pull the Guardians out of offensive ruts time and time again. If it weren't for him, it would be hard to believe the team would still be fighting for a spot at the top of the American League Central.

Reflecting on how well the Guardians have been playing the last few games, manager Stephen Vogt said that there is still work to be done.

“I love the way we're playing," he said. "Like I've said, I've been saying for a while, we just weren't winning games. But I like the way we're playing. The offense was tremendous these three days, and pitching continues to be great. And our defense has been really good as well.

"So we have to keep working. We have to keep our heads down. Got a game tomorrow, and we'll enjoy this one for a while. Have a happy flight, but it's back to work tomorrow.”

Along with a stellar performance from DeLauter, the Guardians got another quality start from left-handed pitcher Foster Griffin.

He pitched through five innings, giving up just five hits and three walks, all while allowing just two earned runs. He also tacked on four strikeouts.

After he exited, the bullpen allowed just two hits and struck out five batters across four innings of action.

With strong pitching from both the starting rotation and the late-game arms, and the offense finally coming around, Cleveland is in a perfect position to continue playing competitive baseball into October.
