Guardians Spring Training Players Of The Game: Split Squad Vs. Giants

Cleveland's José Ramírez, Andrés Giménez, Franco Aleman, and Scott Barlow each performed well in the team's 6-5 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

The Cleveland Guardians suffered their eighth 2024 Cactus League loss with a 6-5 defeat to the San Francisco Giants this past Sunday afternoon.

With 90 players representing the Guardians during spring training (40-man roster, 22 non-roster invitees, and 28 depth camp players), each game’s roster will vary.

Based on Cleveland’s roster for this past Sunday’s game and their performances in the contest, here are four Players of the Game.

José Ramírez, 3B

The 31-year-old drove in his third run in his last four games.

With one out in the bottom of the third inning, Ramírez hit a game-tying solo home run to make it a 2-2 game. This was his first home run of the spring.

Andrés Giménez, 2B

After hitting 1-for-11 (.091) in his first four games, the 25-year-old recorded his first multi-hit game of the spring.

Giménez went 2-for-3 at the plate with a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning, which was his first RBI of the spring. He also scored on Ramón Laureano’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.

Franco Aleman, RHP

The 23-year-old pitched his second consecutive scoreless and hitless inning to begin his spring.

Cleveland’s 20th-ranked prospect according to The Athletic threw two strikeouts in the top of the eighth inning, while allowing a hit-by-pitch and two walks.

Scott Barlow, RHP

The 31-year-old pitched a scoreless top of the third inning in his third relief appearance of the spring.

After issuing a walk to begin the inning, Barlow forced the Giants to record three consecutive outs.
