2024 Guardians Spring Training Players Of The Game: Game 7

Cleveland's David Fry, José Tena, Cade Smith, and Jaime Barria each performed well in the team's 6-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Cleveland Guardians suffered their fifth 2024 Cactus League loss with a 6-4 defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers last night.

With 90 players representing the Guardians during spring training (40-man roster, 22 non-roster invitees, and 28 depth camp players), each game’s roster will vary.

Based on Cleveland’s roster for last night’s game and their performances in the contest, here are four Players of the Game.

David Fry, DH

The 28-year-old utilityman drove in the Guardians’ first two runs of the night. With one out and runners on second and third, Fry hit a two-run single to put Cleveland ahead 2-1.

This base knock gave him his third and fourth RBI of the spring.

José Tena, 2B

The Guardians’ 23rd-ranked prospect according to Baseball America drove in a run in his second consecutive game.

With a runner on second with two outs, the 22-year-old hit an RBI double to extend Cleveland’s lead to 4-1.

Cade Smith, RHP

The Guardians’ 26th-ranked prospect according to Baseball America recorded his second consecutive scoreless relief appearance.

The 24-year-old right-hander tossed a perfect top of the seventh inning, striking out two of the three hitters he faced and earning his first hold of the spring.

Smith has thrown 20 pitches so far this spring, all of which have been strikes.

Jaime Barria, RHP

Cleveland signed the right-hander to a Minor League contract this offseason.

In his second appearance of the spring, the 27-year-old pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning, allowing no hits and two walks, and throwing a pair of strikeouts.
