At 0-9, the Marlins are the last winless team in Major League Baseball. And today represents a great chance at getting into the win column, as Miami has the uber-talented Max Meyer on the bump, facing off against Cardinals starter Kyle Gibson.

Meyer is making his second start of the season, a week after holding the Los Angeles Angels to two runs on two hits across five innings, walking two and striking out four. There’s not a lot of familiarity here for the 25-year-old Meyer; no active St. Louis Cardinals hitter has faced him in the majors.

The 36-year-old Gibson is one of the many veteran pitchers brought in to provide a stable base to the rotation, and he did more than that in his first start against the San Diego Padres: Seven innings of four-hit, two-run ball with two walks and four strikeouts, although he did give up two homers in the outing. Shortstop Tim Anderson’s plenty familiar with Gibson; in 25 at-bats, Anderson’s taken him deep once and is batting .280 with a .720 OPS against the righty.
