Mets Announcers Tackle Opposite Ends of $45 Hot Dog, Create Image That Will 'Live Forever'

There's been more to smile about lately for those associated with the Mets. After a dreadful 10-21 start they've moved slightly in the right direction. After Juan Soto went deep against the Rockies on Wednesday night in a 10-5 triumph, New York has now won three straight and four of five. It's possible that they are well on their way back to .500 and contention for a playoff spot. Digging out of such a big hole is a huge job and must be taken one day at a time. That's always the best approach to accomplishing something that seems daunting. It's not a guaranteed recipe for success but with a willing heart and the help of a good teammate, great things can be accomplished.

Carlos Mendoza's team can take some inspiration from the SNY broadcasting team, which created excellent television out of a tough challenge during Wednesday's game. Someone had an idea and one thing led to another and a comically large, $45 hot dog serendipitously materialized in the booth.

Gary Cohen did not have much interest in sampling the fare. The same cannot be said for Keith Hernandez and Steve Gelbs, who noshed from opposing ends of the novelty item—all for laughs—one bite at a time.

Now, neither eater seemed all that impressed with their bite but that's not what's important here. Two guys ate a big hot dog on television and that's honestly the best idea we have in entertainment. Cohen claimed the image of the duo eating the full-bodied frank will live on forever and, yeah, that does sound about right.

But hey, nothing says broadcasting baseball more than the road team's announcers trying something meant to be outrageous from the home team's stadium offerings. It works almost every single time. That's what we should be focused on. Because thinking about someone paying $45 for a hot dog at the ol' ballgame is simply too horrifying.
