Brett Baty Dealing With Thumb Soreness, Will go for MRI

Mets top prospect Brett Baty exited Triple-A Syracuse's game with right thumb soreness. He will go for imaging on Wednesday.

The Mets will hope for the best.

Top prospect third baseman Brett Baty left Triple-A Syracuse's game on Tuesday with right thumb soreness.

Baty's hand was looked at by trainers during his at-bat in the bottom of the third inning. He finished the at-bat by drawing a walk and ran the bases, but was removed from the game in the top of the fourth for Jose Peraza.

Baty went 1-for-1 with a walk and a single on the day. He also stole a base and scored on Mark Vientos' double.

The Mets announced that Baty will undergo imaging on his thumb on Wednesday. Baty had surgery on the same thumb last season to repair a torn UCL.

After an impressive Spring Training, Baty is off to a hot start for Triple-A Syracuse, batting .400 with a 1.305 OPS, two home runs and five RBIs.

Baty has also looked good defensively, making some strong plays at the hot corner in the early season.

The hope is that Baty's thumb soreness isn't anything more serious. Eduardo Escobar has gotten off to a rough start with the Mets, and Baty could have been playing his way onto the big-league roster.
