Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty Starting to Make Impact for New York Mets

NEW YORK - The kids are alright.

Top prospects Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty are starting to make an impact in the Mets' lineup.

During the Mets' doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves on Monday, Alvarez delivered a go-ahead two-run double in Game 2 to help his team win.

"As time went on, I thought to myself, 'This is all the same.' This is just baseball. Whether it's double-A, triple-A or the big leagues, what you're doing is you're playing baseball," Alvarez said after the game.

Over his last seven games, Alvarez is 6-for-17 (.353) with a home run and three RBIs.

While Alvarez's offense was never questioned, it was his defense that needed work before he received a call-up. However, several members of the Mets' pitching staff, as well as manager Buck Showalter, have all credited the strides he has made behind the plate and in calling games.

Meanwhile, Baty hit his first career home run off a lefty in Game 1 of the doubleheader and collected three hits total on the day.

Baty has been tearing the cover off the ball lately, going 9-for-22 (.409) over the course of the past week.

"I've always said the game is the same all throughout, it's just the outside factors that change," Baty said of his adjustment to the big-leagues.

The Mets have gotten off to a 16-13 start, but have lost six of their last eight games due to shaky pitching and inconsistency on offense. But if Alvarez and Baty, the organization's top two prospects, can put it together, they will make a major impact in the Mets' lineup.

As of late, the kids are proving that they're ready to play in the major leagues on an every day basis.
