MIAMI - The Mets took three out of four games from the Marlins to kick off the 2023 season, and Tommy Pham was a big part of the deciding contest on Sunday.

Pham, who hit .273 against lefties last season, was playing against southpaw Trevor Rogers and had himself a game.

While starting in place of Brandon Nimmo in center field and batting leadoff, Pham went 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk and three RBIs.

After the game, Pham credited his eye doctor for fine tuning his new contact lenses on Thursday. This allowed him to see the ball better at the plate and on defense.

"Felt like I'm seeing the ball better," Pham said. "I'd be lying if I didn't say my eye doctor out here fine tuned my lenses for me. I got my new set on Friday and I felt like everything was way different in a good way."

According to Pham, his lenses from Spring Training had too much astigmatism, which his doctor eliminated with this new set.

Pham has an eye condition called keratoconus, which is when the corneas are thin. He has dealt with this issue for the entirety of his playing career.

In the Mets' first series of the season, Pham went 4-for-9 (.444) with a 1.389 OPS, one home run and three RBIs.

They will hope that his new lenses will help him put together a productive season, as he is expected to be in the lineup regularly against left-handed pitching.
