Justin Verlander Responds to 'Diva' Comments

He has acknowledged the allegations.
According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, former New York Mets ace Justin Verlander was accused of being a "diva" and detached from his teammates by an anonymous Met. He also often complained about the team's analytics department being inferior to the one that he worked with in Houston.
Verlander, 40, responded to this criticism on social media on Monday.
“I want to say that I have nothing but respect for the Mets organization and I enjoyed connecting with all of my teammates this season… new and old!! It truly was a wonderful group of people,” Verlander posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“That being said, we all know the success of a team is made up of more than just the players on the field, everyone’s input is valuable. I’m sorry to hear that a staff member took offense to constructive criticism on how we could improve.
“Wishing nothing but best to the Mets moving forward,” he wrote.
As Puma reported, Verlander's "diva" attitude caused some tension between he and Max Scherzer, who historically didn't see eye-to-eye in the past as teammates in Detroit.
The unnamed Met also told Puma that there was a different feel in the 2023 clubhouse, as opposed to last season when Scherzer and Chris Bassitt willingly shared information to help younger pitchers such as David Peterson and Tylor Megill.
The Mets are 53-65 and have traded away both Verlander and Scherzer in order to retool their farm system. They've added five new players to their Top 10 prospects list, per MLB Pipeline.
