Mets' Max Scherzer Might not Make Tuesday Start due to Injury

The Mets' ace might not be available tonight.
Max Scherzer is uncertain for his start on Tuesday due to an unspecified injury, per Andy Martino of SNY.
As Martino went on to report, Scherzer's issue is not believed to be a major concern and if he does indeed get scratched, he will be considered day-to-day.
In the meantime, the Mets have flown David Peterson out to meet them in Cincinnati. Peterson will start if Scherzer can't go.
Prior to leaving for their seven-game road trip, Scherzer told The New York Post that he's "trying like hell" to avoid the injured list. He is dealing with lingering soreness just south of the scapula.
“Just don’t break,’’ Scherzer told the Post. “I’m trying like hell not to join the IL. I’m fighting through this and doing everything I can. But this is the big leagues and no one cares if you’re hurt. You’ve got to go out there and perform, so I get it.”
Following his April 10 start against the San Diego Padres, Scherzer had his next outing pushed back three days due to soreness.
“I know exactly what this is. It just needs some time,” Scherzer told reporters on April 15. “It was similar to what I was dealing with in 2019. I respect it, know what it is. I know if you just give it a little rest it goes away.”
Scherzer missed time in 2019 while with the Washington Nationals due to a scapula/shoulder blade injury.
The Scherzer injury is a tough blow to a Mets rotation that just got back Justin Verlander, have Carlos Carrasco making a rehab start and are missing Jose Quintana (rib surgery) until at least July.
