He's getting close to the date.

New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga looked sharp in another live batting practice session on Tuesday and now he has a date set for his first Grapefruit League game.

According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, Senga will make his spring debut against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.

There is a lot of intrigue surrounding Senga, who came over from Japan this offseason to sign a five-year, $75 million deal with the Mets.

Senga, 30, posted an 87-44 record, 2.59 ERA, 1.115 WHIP and 1,252 strikeouts across 11 seasons in the Nippon Professional Baseball League.

Senga has dialed up his fastball to 96 mph in camp so far, and features a devastating put away pitch in his arsenal: the "Ghost" forkball.

Senga is projected to be the No. 3 starter in the Mets rotation this season. The hope is that his success from the NPB will translate over to the major leagues.

The right-hander has spent spring training getting adjusted to bigger baseballs and a steeper slope. He has also sought out advice from co-aces Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander on how to pitch in a five-man rotation, something he didn't do in Japan. Senga's future Hall of Fame rotation mates are also teaching him how to take care of his arm while pitching every fifth day.

The Mets will get their first glimpse of Senga in live-game action on Sunday, which will indicate how his progression is going early on.
