Not a good situation.
Outfielder Khalil Lee, who's on the Mets' 40-man roster, is being accused of physical and verbal abuse towards his ex-girlfriend, according to Syracuse.com.
Per Syracuse.com, a warrant has been issued for Lee, 24, by the Syracuse police for criminal obstruction of breath. There was also a lawsuit filed in federal court on Wednesday, naming Lee on allegations of abusing his ex-girlfriend while he was playing for the Mets' Triple-A team in Syracuse last season.
Major League Baseball has opened up an investigation to look into the allegations against Lee.
“The Mets immediately notified MLB upon becoming aware of the allegations,” the Mets said in a statement, via The New York Post. “We will fully comply with MLB’s policy and cannot comment until the completion of the league’s investigative process.”
Lee's former girlfriend, Keriwyn Hill. is claiming in the lawsuit that Lee "assaulted her by pulling her hair and choking her during an argument," in May of 2022, which left her with several bruises and marks on her body, as Syracuse.com reported.
In February 2021, Lee was traded to the Mets by the Kansas City Royals in a three-team deal. Lee has appeared in 13 games for New York over the past two seasons, striking out in 13 of 20 at-bats. He has spent the majority of his time playing for the Syracuse Mets in Triple-A, where he was expected to begin the season in 2023.
