New York Mets' Alonso Headed for More Testing

In this story:
All of Mets land is holding their breath.
New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso underwent a CT scan in Atlanta on Thursday morning, but was then sent back to New York for an MRI on his wrist.
Alonso was hit on the wrist on Wednesday night by a Charlie Morton 97 mph fastball. Initial X-Rays came back negative and he was diagnosed with a wrist contusion.
According to manager Buck Showalter, the Mets sent Alonso to New York to get his wrist checked out because: “I think we'd rather have our people look at it.”
Alonso leads Major League Baseball with 22 home runs and leads the National League with 49 RBIs. The skidding Mets can ill-afford to lose their best slugger for a significant period of time.
As Showalter said, Alonso had more soreness in his wrist on Thursday morning.
“We had plans for him to have the scan this morning anyway, just to be on the safe side,” Showalter said.
Morton apologized to Alonso following Wednesday night's game, which saw the Atlanta Braves beat the Mets by a score of 7-5. The night before, Alonso was heard yelling "throw it again" at Atlanta starter Bryce Elder, who he had just hit a homer off of.
“He was looking for me,” said Alonso of Morton's postgame visit on Wednesday night. "He just wanted to apologize. Obviously he didn’t mean to. For people speculating for this or that, I just wanted to clear that. Chuckie’s a good guy and the situation didn’t call for it either. There’s nothing to it. I just happened to get hit with an up-and-in fastball.”
Showalter remained hopeful that Alonso could return during the Mets' three-game series in Pittsburgh.
For now, Mets people are hoping for the best for their All-Star first baseman.
