New York Mets' Top Prospect Makes Bold Prediction About Path to Big-Leagues

New York Mets top prospect Luisangel Acuna, the younger brother to MLB superstar Ronald Acuna Jr., told reporters on Tuesday that he expects to be in the big-leagues "pretty soon."

The Mets acquired Acuna in the deal that sent ace pitcher Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers at the trade deadline. Acuna is already the Mets' No. 2 ranked prospect in their farm system.

After going hitless in his first game with the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Acuna, 21, has hit in five straight games and has three walks, three runs scored, one RBI and one stolen base (two attempts).

Acuna is an exciting young player, who can hit, field and show off his speed on the bath paths.

Although Acuna's main position is shortstop, which is blocked by Francisco Lindor in the major leagues, he says he is willing to move to second base.

It also helps that Acuna has a superstar older brother, who has already played a number of seasons for the Atlanta Braves.

“I look up to my brother,” the younger Acuña said. “I obviously learned a lot from him, him being a superstar in the game. I consider him being a part of my career because he’s always been there for me.”

According to Acuna, Ronald keeps telling him that he will see him in the big-leagues.

In addition to his brother, Acuna is also friends with Mets rookie catcher Francisco Alvarez. The pair grew up 45 minutes away from each other in Venezuela and met one another at try outs. Acuna says they get together every offseason to catch up and train.

The Mets have to be hopeful about Acuna's potential. The young prospect sure is, and expects to be in the big-leagues sooner rather than later.
