PORT ST. LUCIE - There were a significant amount of Mets that made MLB Network's top 100 list this year.

Here's who cracked the list:

No. 14: starting pitcher Justin Verlander

No. 15: starting pitcher Max Scherzer

No. 21: shortstop Francisco Lindor

No. 31: first baseman Pete Alonso

No. 45: second baseman Jeff McNeil

No. 51: closer Edwin Diaz

No. 54: center fielder Brandon Nimmo

No. 61: right fielder Starling Marte

The eight Mets players on this list was tied for the most in baseball with the reigning World Series champion Houston Astros.

Out of the eight Mets on said list, five of them made the All-Star team last season. There's also a case to be made that Lindor, Nimmo and Scherzer should've made the Midsummer Classic last year as well.

There's no arguing that the Mets are loaded with talent this year, which brings along high expectations.

Billionaire owner Steve Cohen spent $500 million in free agency, bringing in Verlander, Kodai Senga, Jose Quintana and David Robertson, among others, while retaining Brandon Nimmo, Edwin Diaz and Adam Ottavino.  This shot the team payroll up to $370 million, the highest in MLB history.

Although they won 101 games last year, Manager Buck Showalter's squad came up short, missing out on the NL East title and falling to the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card round. The hope is that the influx of talent will help this group get over the hump in 2023.
