Blake Snell Should Be Ready to Face Padres in Home Opening Series

The Padres could be getting ready to face a former teammate in 2023 National League Cy Young winner Blake Snell. Snell recently signed a two-year $62 million contract, with an opt-out after 2024, with NL West rival San Francisco Giants.

Despite signing after spring training, Snell has stayed ready to start contributing to the Giants this year. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Snell should be ready to go for the Padres' upcoming series in San Francisco starting April 5.

“Cy Young winner Blake Snell, who signed a 2-year, $62 million contract with the San Francisco Giants last week, should be ready to be in the rotation by their first homestand against the Padres, his former team, beginning April 5.”

The Padres opened the season with a four-game set against the Giants at home in San Diego. Before the second game, Snell was seen hanging out with his former teammates on the field.

Despite an overall tumultuous 2023 season, many of the players wanted A.J. Preller to give Snell an extension. However, he went up north with Padres 2023 manager Bob Melvin. In his three years with the Padres, Snell started 83 games with a 3.15 ERA. He ended his tenure in S.D. by winning his second Cy Young award with a league-best 2.25 ERA.
