Padres News: Manny Machado Claims WBC Was More Important Than World Series

In this story:
Manny Machado of your San Diego Padres has established himself as not just one of the best players in baseball but also someone that others look up to. His 2022 season caught the eyes of many and quieted a lot of his haters. In a year that many others would have thrown in the towel and waited until next season when their team was healthy again, Machado did everything in his power to will San Diego to the World Series and almost did.
However, despite all of the heart and grit the 30-year-old superstar showed in the postseason, he has revealed that there is one thing he cherishes above winning a championship. In an interview with 'La Vida Baseball', Machado was asked if the World Baseball Classic or a World Series meant more to him.

"World Baseball Classic for me," said Machado. "I have not won a World Series yet, but hopefully one day. I want to win both."
This interview is no reason for Friars fans to panic as the star third baseman confirmed that he does want to win both in his career. He is just coming off of suiting up for the Dominican Republic in the 2023 WBC.
Despite housing some of the top players in the MLB, the Dominican Republic's team went just 2-2 in their pool play and failed to even make the quarterfinals. Machado had some great performances at bat but his squad failed to generate enough offense to win the necessary games.
Even though Machado has yet to win a World Series in his ten seasons in the league, he likely chose the WBC as his bigger priority because of how rare the tournament is. He will have the opportunity to bring home a title for the Friars every single year moving forward while he won't get the chance to play in the WBC again until 2027.
