Padres Notes: Bye Bye Bob, Melvin Set to be Introduced by Giants, 6 Seed D-Backs Make World Series

In this story:
Well, it's official.
Bob Melvin, who just weeks ago was confirmed by AJ Preller as the Padres manager for the 2024 season, will be headed north to take over as manager for the San Francisco Giants.
The Giants officially named Bob Melvin their new manager. He’ll be introduced during a press conference at Oracle Park today at 10:30 a.m.

The news comes in the wake of the Padres granting San Francisco permission to interview Melvin. Reportedly, the duo of Preller and Melvin were not the best of friends, which might have factored into each party's decision.
If you're reading the room and the press release out of SF, Melvin is set to be announced as the new manager sometime this afternoon, as tweeted by Andrew Baggarly, among others.
Just got this advisory: “Giants to hold press conference tomorrow to make big announcement.”

(I do not think this is about the Cruise uniform patches.)
Update: the time is set for 10:30 AM PT. Additionally, AJ Preller will address reporters via Zoom at noon.

- San Diego Union-Tribune columnist Bryce Miller couldn't help but stir up the similarities to the last time the Padres gave a manager away to the Giants. However, Miller argues that the success Bruce Bochy had in the bay would be nearly impossible to replicate.
- The NL West rival Arizona Diamondbacks are heading to the World Series after sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card series, sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, and putting together an epic comeback against the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS.
Considering the D-backs were the no.6 seed in the National League and the Padres finished just 2 games behind them adds a bit of extra sting to the Fall Classic.
Padres Tweets of the Day:
Wish Bob Melvin all the best. He was always accessible to us media, always willing to take time to answer questions or give perspective. It was great watching him interact with players and share stories. Appreciate all that was learned under his tenure in San Diego. #Padres
