Philadelphia Phillies Showing Strong Trade Interest in Red Sox Slugger

The Philadelphia Phillies are showing strong trade interest in one of the Boston Red Sox's biggest bats.

The Philadelphia Phillies could be poised to make a big splash at the MLB trade deadline on Aug. 1.

For weeks the Phillies have been rumored to be looking at adding a big bat that can play left field. Adding a quality outfielder would give manager Rob Thomson more roster and lineup flexibility.

According to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe, Philadelphia may have found their man in Boston Red Sox slugger Adam Duvall.

Duvall, who is a 34-year-old right-hander, can play every position in the outfield but would likely be tabbed to take over in left field. As a righty he would slot in nicely with all the left-handed bats that the Phillies currently possess.

In 2023 Duvall has compiled a .260/.325/.527 slashline with eight home runs through 43 games. He has dealt with a wrist injury that he suffered on April 9, but he has returned and could be traded.

Duvall signed a one-year, $7 million contract during the winter, so the Phillies would only be on the hook for about $3 million for his services.

Duvall isn't as flashy of a name as say Cody Bellinger or Juan Soto, but he would be an important piece to the roster that the Phillies are currently lacking.

Considering age, contract status and injury history, acquiring Duvall would not come with a hefty price tag. That could leave the door open for Philadelphia to acquire more arms to reinforce the rotation or bullpen.

The deal could come to fruition as the Phillies have deployed scouts to watch Duvall and a deal could be on the horizon.
