Philadelphia Phillies Clobber Marlins in Offensive Fireworks Show

The Philadelphia Phillies finished off the Miami Marlins on Monday night in what was a statement win.

Something had to change for the Philadelphia Phillies (4-6) after a concerning and lackluster start to the 2023 MLB season. With that in mind, manager Rob Thomson shook up the batting order and placed Bryson Stott in the leadoff spot, moved Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber down a spot and placed Nick Castellanos in cleanup.

It worked.

The Phillies proceeded to put on a fireworks show and defeated the Miami Marlins (4-7) 15-3 on Monday at Citizens Bank Park.

Oh, and nine of the runs came against the 2022 National League Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara. Alcantara didn't allow more than five runs in a single game last season.

Some quick highlights included Jake Cave's first home run of the season, a 413-foot blast to give the Phillies their first run of the night and the spark of a five-run third inning.

The next was a mammoth home run by Alec Bohm in the sixth inning that extended Philadelphia's lead to 13-0. It was a massive 440-foot moonshot to left-center field that counted for Bohm's third of the season.

The third baseman is on an incredible run right now.

Stott, Cave and Schwarber each had two hits on the evening. Castellanos and Turner each had three hits. And Brandon Marsh hit his second home run of the evening.

Just as impressive was the Phillies starting pitcher Matt Strahm. Making his second start of the season, Strahm went 5.0 scoreless innings pitched. He has now pitched 10.0 scoreless innings to start the season.

Philadelphia took full advantage of a weaker Marlins lineup on Monday, but they fact they did as much damage as they did to a Cy Young winner is even more impressive.

The Phillies look to stay on track against the Marlins on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET.
