Could This Proposal Interest Philadelphia Phillies at Trade Deadline?

The Philadelphia Phillies could be interested in making a deal for an outfielder at this season's MLB trade deadline.

In this story:

The Philadelphia Phillies could be in the market for an outfielder come the MLB trade deadline.

As pointed out by USA Today, as Bryce Harper moves to first base following the MLB All-Star Game, that would allow Kyle Schwarber the opportunity to hit in the designated hitter's position more often.

That clears up a space in the outfield.

The perfect candidate for the Phillies in that case would be 2019 National League MVP Cody Bellinger who is currently on a one-year, $17.5 million contract with the Chicago Cubs

The Cubs are in the weakest division in baseball, but they are still quite out of the postseason race. That means a player like Bellinger, who is on an expiring contract, is likely to be moved.

Bellinger is a Gold Glover, can play all three outfield positions as well as first base. He is also slashing .284/.341/.456 with seven home runs in a bounce back year. He's a perfect fit both offensively and defensively.

But what would Philadelphia have to give up for the rental?

Griff McGarry could be the centerpiece of any trade this season. He is the most likely to be moved of any of the top three pitching prospects the Phillies possess.

A straight up trade of McGarry for Bellinger might be what it takes to pry the most sought after position player on the trade market this year. Especially given the fact that the market appears to be quite bare of impact talent heading into the trade deadline.

But is the price tag too high for Philadelphia or would they see it as acquiring the final piece to position themselves for another World Series run?
