In this story:

Rob Thomson dealt with plenty of adversity in his rookie season with the Philadelphia Phillies.

So he surely won’t panic now.

Thomson took over a struggling team that was 22-29 and guided them all the way to the World Series. Two more victories and Thomson would have been celebrating down Broad Street.

Thomson had to get the Phillies to believe following a rocky start under Joe Girardi. Then he had to find a way to get them to the playoffs for the first time since 2011 without a true leadoff hitter.

Thomson was nearly flawless in his managerial role, even if you want to criticize him for pulling Zack Wheeler after 70 pitches in Game 6 of the World Series against the Houston Astros.

All of the experience garnered by Thomson will make him that much stronger in 2023.

My oh my has Thomson been tested already.

Injuries to a number of key players in spring training has already forced him to juggle his roster.

No matter the circumstances, Thomson will be ready.

Could he have handled all of this without the experience from last season? Of course.

But “Philly Rob” will be ready to go with the 26-man roster no matter who’s injured.

When you’ve managed in the World Series, these issues in spring training must not seem too serious.

Thomson’s demeanor won’t change.

And the Phillies will benefit from that in a big way.
