Pictured above is Tigers reliever Al Alburquerque. If you heard of him, you already know more than WFAN-AM's Mike Francesa. The longtime NYC sports-talk radio host said he had never heard of the pitcher, and quickly dismissed a caller asking about him during a radio show in October. Franseca's miscue made Awful Announcing's countdown of the top 10 announcing gaffes of 2011. I still don't think anything tops this ESPN announcer from 2010 who referred to Citi Field as another field that rhymes with city.

Poor Eric Gordon. It's bad enough that he got traded from the rising Clippers to the lowly Hornets, but Gordon learned of the trade while riding on a bus with some of his (former) Clippers teammates, coaches, members of the dance team, and season-ticket holders.

What do you do when you win a NBA Championship and your boss is Mark Cuban, one of the most openly outlandish spenders in professional sports? You ask for a $200,000 championship ring, as Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitski did. Unfortunately, the NBA sets a limit on how much a team can spend on its rings. But if you think that's going to knock Dirk off his post-championship happy cloud, think again.

Doesn't Hurt To Ask

If you caught Sunday's Saints-Titans game, you may have noticed a man dressed as Santa Claus drop to one knee and propose to Tennessee cheerleader Janae Kram. St. Nick turned out to be her boyfriend, Ben Graham, a right-handed pitcher in the Nationals farm system. Of course, the engagement pales in comparison to Kram earning Lovely Lady of the Day honors. While we're on the topic, here is a look at other memorable sports-related wedding proposals.

The athletic department at East Carolina is selling tickets to the Virtual Bowl for $50 apiece, which seems like a decent price until you realize that there is no such thing as a Virtual Bowl and it's all a big scam fundraiser.

When I'm not filling in for Jimmy, I run the SI Vault and like to post funny/cool/embarrassing sports photos to the SI Vault Twitter feed. Since we're now living in Tim Tebow's world, here's the Broncos quarterback at the beach, ignoring the two bikini-clad girls who are checking him out.

This is an interesting theory on why Brewers star Ryan Braun failed his drug test ... This is an even more interesting theory about why Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suhlost his temper and stomped an opposing player during the Lions-Packers Thanksgiving game ... The outspoken Charles Barkley joined the latest edition of the Hot Clicks Podcast for a chat that covered a wide array of topics. Along with the state of the NBA, David Stern's power trip and the status of Chris Paul and Dwight Howard, we also discussed Barkley's disdain for the over-the-top Tim Tebow coverage, his intense hatred of Skip Bayless, his gambling habits and dieting. Yes, dieting. Barkley is the new spokesman for Weight Watchers. You can listen to the show below or download it here.
