Team Name Changes Without Relocating

Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan announced Tuesday, May 21, that the franchise has officially submitted paperwork to the NBA to change its name to the "Hornets" for the 2014-15 season. "Let's bring the buzz back," Jordan said at a press conference, noting that "overwhelming" fan support for the switch influenced the organization's decision. Here are the other current franchises that have changed names without changing location.

The New Orleans Hornets officially adopted the "Pelicans" moniker on April 18, 2013, launching a new website and new social media accounts. Hornets.com now redirects to Pelicans.com.
