Florida State athletic director Stan Wilcox said in a statement Thursday that athletic events this weekend will be played.

A gunman reportedly identified as an FSU alumnus opened fire inside a library at the university early Thursday morning. The man reportedly wounded three people before police killed him.

The statement says that the school has been assured that the threat has been dealt with. Classes were canceled for Thursday but the campus remains open.

From the statement:

Following tragic times like we experienced today, athletic events can help in unifying both the student body and community. That is our hope in moving forward with these events.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those directly affected by this tragedy.
