Philadelphia 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams has been named the 2013-14 NBA Rookie of the Year.

Carter-Williams is just the third rookie since 1950-51 to lead all rookies in scoring (16.7 points), rebounding (6.2) and assists (6.3). He received 104 of a possible 124 first-place votes, finishing with 569 points and beating Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo (364 points) and Utah Jazz guard Trey Burke (96 points) handily. Carter-Williams, Oladipo and Burke were the only rookies to average 30 minutes per game this season, which in turn helped separate them from a wholly underwhelming rookie class.

This was a trying season for first-year players on the whole; only three rookies to log consistent rotation minutes rated as average or better by way of PER, Carter-Williams one among them. He managed to fill the box score as a result of playing reasonably well in a prominent role with a fast-breaking team, though Carter-Williams also averaged the fifth-most turnovers per game (3.5) in the league while shooting just 40.5 percent from the floor. He was still one of exceptionally few bright spots for a Sixers team that won 19 games this season, though most big-picture statistical indicators rate Carter-Williams' debut season as inferior to that of many previous Rookie of the Year Winners.

A 6-foot-7 point guard, Carter-Williams was selected by the 76ers with the No. 11 pick in the 2013 NBA draft. He won Rookie of the Month in October/November, January, March and April. He was the top pick for Rookie of the Year in SI.com's unofficial awards, beating out Oladipo by a vote of 4-1.

The last 76er to win the award was Allen Iverson in 1996-97.
