Chicago Bulls F Doug McDermott will undergo knee surgery

Chicago Bulls rookie forward Doug McDermott will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on his right knee on Saturday, the team announced on Friday evening.

According to the team's announcement, a schedule for his return will be decided after the procedure.

McDermott sat out Chicago's game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night, his fifth consecutive missed game. According to a report from the Associated Press, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said prior to the game that McDermott's condition would be re-evaluated.

McDermott, who was drafted No. 11 by the Denver Nuggets and traded to Chicago on draft night, has averaged 1.6 rebounds and 3.2 points in 11.6 minutes per game through 17 games this season. However, he hasn't appeared in a game since the Bulls' win over the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 30.

In four years at Creighton, the 6-foot-8, 22-year-old averaged 7.5 rebounds, 21.7 points and 1.3 assists in 31.5 minutes per game.

Bulls center Joakim Noah also missed Friday's game, his second straight absence. Thibodeau said Noah was improving and that the team would evaluate him before Chicago's game against the Miami Heat on Sunday.

The Bulls, 13-8 going into their game against Portland, are fifth in the Eastern Conference.
