Portland Trail Blazers guard Arron Afflalo did not exercise his player option and is now a free agent, according to The Oregonian. He had until the end of Monday to exercise his $7.75 million option.

Afflalo, 29, spent 25 games with the Blazers last season after he was acquired in a trade with the Denver Nuggets in February.

Afflalo averaged 10.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in his brief stint with the Blazers.

Portland acquired Afflalo in hopes of strengthening its bench for the playoffs, but he was forced into a starting role after Wes Matthews tore his Achilles tendon. Afflalo then strained his shoulder late in the regular season and played only 20 minutes per game in three of Portland's five playoff games.
