Now that the NBA preseason has tipped off and the regular season is just three weeks away, teams are putting the finishing touches on their rosters and players are setting expectations for the year.

• Cavs forward LeBron James called Tristan Thompson’s ongoing contract negotiations with the team “a distraction,” Dave McMenamin of ESPN reports.

• Sacramento Kings head coach George Karl told CSN Bay Area’s Kayte Christensen that he has apologized to center DeMarcus Cousins for suggesting the All Star was a tradeable player.

• Carmelo Anthonysaid he’s “here to stay,” when asked about remaining with the New York Knicks. Anthony has been the subject of numerous trade rumors this offseason.

• Indiana Pacers forward Paul Georgesaid he may not be “cut out” for the power forward position after a 110–105 preseason loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

• Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will wear a mask upon his return from an orbital fracture, Sam Smith of NBA.com reports.

• Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will likely be out for weeks with a dislocated right shoulder, reports Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer. Kidd-Gilchrist sustained the injury during Saturday’s preseason game against the Orlando Magic.

• The Milwaukee Bucks announced that they will use an alternate court and new uniforms for four games this season. It will be the first time a team has used an alternate court in NBA history.
