Kicks and Colors spotlights the variety of colorways—and the stories that go with—that brands unveil in key basketball sneakers.

Brand: Nike

Sneaker: KD8

Signature athlete: Kevin Durant

Colorway: Aunt Pearl

Story: What a way to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and honor the memory of his aunt at the same time. Following up on last year’s “Aunt Pearl” release, the new KD8 Aunt Pearl goes a bit more colorful this year while Kevin Durant pays homage to an aunt he lost to cancer in 2001. Using purples and pinks and iridescent graphics said to “evoke mother of pearl” help give shine to the shoes that are set to release on Monday, Feb. 22.
