Nets Sign Coach Jacque Vaughn to Multi-Year Extension
In perhaps the most tumultuous season in franchise history, the Nets are rewarding the one man in their organization who has provided stability.
Brooklyn is signing coach Jacque Vaughn to a multi-year extension, as first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Details of the deal were not made public.
Vaughn, 48, is 97–108 lifetime as an NBA head coach, a record that includes three seasons with the Magic from 2013 to ’15. He is 61–39 across parts of two seasons—2020 and ’23—with the Nets.
The veteran coach has guided Brooklyn through a maelstrom of transactions and scandals, including the Nov. 1 firing of coach Steve Nash (and the team reportedly backing off hiring ex-Celtics coach Ime Udoka that followed), the fallout from guard Kyrie Irving's sharing of antisemitism materials and the Nets’ trades of Irving to the Mavericks and forward Kevin Durant to the Suns.
"Jacque has made an immediate and immeasurable impact on our organization since assuming the role of head coach earlier this season," Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks said in a statement. "We are thrilled to have Jacque lead the Nets for years to come."
The Nets are currently 34–24, fifth in the Eastern Conference and 2.5 games behind the fourth-place Cavaliers.
