The future is now for the Spurs, with No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama set to make his first NBA appearance in Las Vegas Summer League on Friday night.

The much anticipated debut of Wembanyama has drawn a sellout crowd of 17,500-plus for Day 1 of the 11-day Summer League event on the campus of UNLV.

“I can’t wait. Can’t wait,” Wembanyama told the Associated Press on Thursday. “The practices lately have been really intense. I made a little pause in basketball with the draft and stuff, and couldn’t really practice. I’m getting back in shape and I can’t wait. I’m having so much fun,” he added.

Wembanyama is not expected to play in every game of the Summer League for the Spurs, but he will play in at least one or two games in Vegas, he revealed.

Three-and-a-half hours before Wembanyama’s debut on Friday night, the crowd was already buzzing inside the sold out Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Andscape‘s Marc Spears noted that there are over 500 members of the media who have been credentialed for the game on Friday night.

Wembanyama and the Spurs tip off against No. 2 pick Brandon Miller and the Hornets at 9:00 p.m. ET on Friday night. The game will be televised on ESPN.
