Grizzlies’ Ja Morant Addresses Dunk Over Victor Wembanyama: ‘My Late Christmas Gift’

The highly anticipated matchup between Ja Morant and Victor Wembanyama drew plenty of attention on Tuesday night, but it was one specific play that left fans talking. During the Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs game, Morant challenged Wembanyama at the rim and produced a highlight-reel moment in the form of an impressive crossover followed by a thunderous dunk from the 24-year-old guard.

Morant was asked about the dunk after the 106-98 victory and offered a great response.

“That’s what everybody wanted, so that’s my late Christmas gift,” Morant said, per Damichael Cole of The Commercial Appeal.

The dunk had Morant hyped up, the bench going wild and fans echoing the young guard’s energy, and the play immediately went viral.

Wembanyama was asked about Morant following the game and praised the two-time NBA All-Star.

“Of course, a good player. Very, very small, so it’s hard to catch up on him, and very fast. Yeah, it’s just another great player that I see every night now in the NBA. Everyone’s got a franchise player like this who’s causing problems,” Wembanyama told Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News.

Morant finished the game with 26 points, 10 assists and five rebounds, while Wembanyama tallied 20 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
